BOAT Insurance
1. Are recreational vehicles covered under my homeowner policy?
Only if they are registered for the road and are used for the maintenance of the premises. You need to purchase specific insurance for recreational vehicles that are taken over the road whether they are registered or not.

2. Will my truck policy cover my travel trailer ?
Your auto policy will provide liability coverage while the travel trailer is attached or being towed.

3. Does my Motor Home Insurance cover Mexico ?
Only Other Than Collision coverage is provided for accidents that occur in Mexico less than 25 miles from the border on trips that are less than 10 day in length. You should purchase Mexican auto insurance to cover the days of travel in Mexico before traveling there.

4. Why do I need to buy Boat insurance?
Boat insurance policy covers claims that a regular auto insurance policy does not. It is like combining a house and an auto policy in one.

5. Is a motor home Insurance policy just like a regular auto policy
For basic coverage such as liability, Other Than Collision/Collision. But they offer specialized covrage's that the typical auto policy doesn't, like contents, awnings, tow dollies, roof a/c's etc. to name a few.

6. Why shouldn't I add coverage for my motor home to my auto policy ?
If your Boat was destroyed, you would have to file a claim with your auto carrier as well as your homeowners for your personal effects. In most cases that would mean two deductibles. With an Boat policy, you'll have one claim, one company, one deductilble.

7. What is personal property coverage on my Boat ?
This covers items that you take on board your Boat, such as housewares, tools, clothing and sporting equipment, etc. for their full replacement value. Although these items may be covered by your homeowners policy, typically only 10 % of your homeowners coverage extends to off-premise property. This is usually not enough to cover the items in your Boat.

8. When I add items such as awnings, satellite dish, etc. are they then covered by my motor home policy ?
Yes, motor home insurance covers these items automatically.

9. Is the vehicle I'm towing behind my motor home covered.
No, the towed vehicle would be covered under your personal auto policy.

10. What is Vacation Liability Coverage ?
This pays for bodily injury or property damage to others occuring at your vacation campsite. This coverage may vary between insurance companies. It would be best to check with your specific carrier.

11. What is emergency expense coverage ?
Reimburses you for expenses incurred following an accident or other covered loss. Pays for hotels and transportation if your coach is incapacitated. This can vary between companies, you should choose the dollar amount for maximum reimbursement.

12. What is Full Timers Coverage ?
Provides comprehensive personal liability, stored personal contents, and additional living expenses for those living full-time in their Boat. Check with your specific carrier for availability.

BOAT Extended Warranty
1. Why do I need to buy an extended service warranty?
When you purchase an boat, there's always a chance of having a mechanical breakdown. Buying the extended service warranty will give you peace of mind knowing most problems can be taken care of with just a phone call.

2. Is my service plan transferable if I sell the vehicle?
Yes, your service plan can be trasfered over to the buyer.

3. Can I cancel the extended warranty if I sell the vehicle?
Yes, the extended service warranty is cancelable at any time; however, some owners have found that it's easier to sell the vehicle if they just transfer the plan to the buyer.

4. Where can I have work performed?
At any qualified repair facility.

5. I already have an Emergency Roadside assistance program. Why do I need an expended warranty policy too ?
Emergency Road service will tow your disabled vehicle into a Service Center.
The extended Warranty policy then takes care of fixing your unit, paying the cost of covered repairs which are listed on the contract. Some of these policies will cover some of the cost for towing but usually not enough for what the actual tow bill will run on a large motor home.

6. Does this type of warranty pay for parts & labor ?
Yes! Parts and labor are included for ALL covered repairs.

7. Do I have a deductible on the repairs ?
Most extended service companies have a deductible on the repairs, and most are per visit. This means you only pay one deductible per vist and could have several covered repairs done at once.
You would be smart to look over the policy prior to the purchase to see what deductible rules pertain to the policy you are interested in buying.

8. Can I use an Extended Warranty for routine maintenance ?
NO! These types of warranties are for unexpected breakdowns, not the day-to-day servicing of your Boat. With that said most of these types of companies require that you keep service records.
These records should be done according to the manufacturers requirements and will be required in the case of a major covered breakdown.

9. Once my unit is repaired, Who pays the bill ?
The service administrator for your particular warranty company will pay the bill for the authorized covered repairs. You should only be asked to pay any applicable deductibles or betterment.

10. If there is a major repair need for a covered item can I have the cost applied toward a new item ?
In most cases a warranty company will allow a client to do what is called "betterment". This allows you to apply the amount of the covered repair toward the cost of replacing the item with new, you pay the difference. This must all be approved prior to any work being done as with all other repairs.

11. If I'm on a trip and my motor home breaks down how does extended warranty help ?
With an extended warranty, when you break down you take your unit into a Service Center. Then have the Service Center call the toll-free number. Your problem then becomes their problem, they take over the process for getting the work authorized and completed.

12. How likely is it that my Boat will break down ?
The odds go up with every passing year. Different company records will vary but for the most part it has been shown that 3 out of 10 motorhomes will need major repairs in only their second year. This goes up to 8 out of 10 the fifth year, and almost all of them need major repair in their eight year.

BOAT Destinations
1. Traveling with pets
In our experience and having browsed many campground directories it appears that most campgrounds will allow pets as long as they are restrained in some way. Most parks that don't allow pets tell you in their ad or listing in the guide books Happy camping.

2. What Campground Guide should I get?
Most Boaters agree that the 'Trailer Life' directory is the best on the American market, it's updated yearly, lists information for nearly every campground in the US. The Woodahls' directories are also excellent, they publish an East, a West, and a Tent campers addition.

AAA campground guides are thinner, but contain very well selected CG's. This has been our mainstay since we discovered them a couple of years ago.

Occasionally travelers will be surprised as they take various items through various states. Information about how long can my rig be when I drive through state X, and how can I take my propane tank through a tunnel are well covered in the Trailer Life Campground guide
